Important Public Housing News
As of June 1st, the Public Housing wait list will be closed for ALL bedroom sizes. The wait list will be closed for approximately 90 days. A public notice will be provided when the wait list will reopen by bedroom size.
The public housing program provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families. The Omaha Housing Authority owns and manages 28 different public housing properties. Our properties come in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. Residents of public housing have the choice of paying flat rent (listed below) or income-based rent.
Applicants may qualify for all or some of the following property types:
Senior Housing
Elderly (age 62+) and near elderly (age 50-61) families, apartment sizes ranging from studios to 2 bedrooms.
Houses and Duplexes
Families must qualify for the Working/Elderly/Disabled Preference, various locations and unit sizes.
Apartments and Row Houses
Open to all eligible applicants, located in all areas of the city, from small to large communities and a range of bedroom sizes.
